Maha Shivratri is a very important day on the Hindu calendar celebrated at Radha Madhav Dham in honor of the day when God Shiv and Goddess Parvati were married. Bhagwan Shiv is the giver of emancipation and is adored by His devotees as God.

There is a unique shrine of Lord Shiv at Radha Madhav Dham which sits under a canopy of oak trees . On the large Shiv lingam is engraved with a lovely image of Gopeshwar, representing Lord Shiv when He took the form of a Gopi so He could have a divine vision of Radha Krishna doing the Maharaas. He had been waiting so long for this opportunity to experience the Bliss of Maharaas. But when He reached Vrindaban, he was told he needed the permission of Radha Rani, the Goddess of maharaas, to enter Vrindaban. On getting her permission, the overjoyed Bhagwan Shiv converted Himself into the form of a Gopi and entered into Vrindaban. In this form, He is known as Gopeshwar Mahadev – the aspect that this shrine represents.

Har Har Mahadev!
